Wim Ceelen

Wim Ceelen is a surgical oncologist at Ghent University Hospital, Belgium. He has an interest in GI cancer, soft tissue sarcoma, and peritoneal metastasis. He is a teacher of evidence based medicine and has experience with basic, translational, and clinical cancer research. He joined the Board of Directors of ESSO in 2020.

Doctor José Volders trained at Radboud University Medical Center and Rijnstate Hospital in the Netherlands and obtained her degree of PhD in 2018 with her thesis entitled 'Cosmetic outcome and patient satisfaction: ongoing challenges in breast conserving therapy'. During her surgical traineeship she co-developed and participated in the Topclass Medical Education from the  Radboudumc Health Academy. From 2020-2021 she obtained a fellowship in Surgical oncology in Gelre Hospitals.  As a board member of the Dutch Breast Surgery Working group, research and education are an important area of interest for her.

Isabel T. Rubio is the Director of the Breast Surgical Unit at Clínica Universidad de Navarra. Previously she was the Chief of Breast Surgical Oncology at the Hospital Universitario Vall d´Hebron, and Associate Professor at the Universitat Autònoma, Barcelona. Dr. Rubio trained as a Breast Surgical Oncology Fellow at The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences at Little Rock and at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Dr. Rubio is  President of the European Society of Breast Cancer Specialists (EUSOMA) and President of the European Societ of Surgical Oncology (ESSO). She is Founding member and Past President of the Spanish Association of Breast Surgeons (AECIMA) member of the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO). She is a member of the Editorial Board, Breast Section of the European Journal of Surgical Oncology (EJSO), Reviewer  for The Breast, the European Journal of Surgical Oncology and the Annals of Surgical Oncology. She is an officer at the UEMS Breast Surgery Division and participates as an examiner in the EBSQ Examinations in Breast Surgery. Dr. Rubio has participated as part of the Steering and Executive Committees in several international, multicentre randomized trials. Dr. Rubio has published several national and international peer review manuscripts and book chapters. Her interest is in sentinel lymph node biopsy, neoadjuvant treatments, ultrasound guided surgery and surgical management of BRCA mutation carriers.

Geerard Beets

Geerard Beets is Professor in Surgical Oncology and Chair of the Department of Surgery at Maastricht University Medical Centre in The Netherlands. He previously worked in the same Department, moved to The Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam in 2015, and now returned to Maastricht. His clinical field of expertise is colorectal cancer, with multidisciplinary research focused on rectal cancer: MR imaging of rectal cancer, outcome research and organ preserving treatment of rectal cancer, and on the use of immune checkpoint inhibition in colorectal cancer. This resulted in many papers, PhD theses and invited lectures. Geerard Beets is President of the European Society of Surgical Oncology, faculty member of national and international colorectal and oncological societies, and member of the editorial team of several colorectal and oncological journals.
