Breast Cancer Training Pathway
What's included
The ESSO Training Pathway in Breast Cancer Surgery, developed as part of the European Breast Surgical Oncology Certification (BRESO) Programme, is designed to equip surgeons with advanced, evidence-based skills and practices in breast cancer surgery, including oncoplastic techniques, robotic surgery, and localisation methods. In addition to the course on Basics of Oncology for Surgeons and other mandatory specialty courses, optional modules in Artificial Intelligence and Fluorescence-Guided Surgery further enhance learning, preparing participants to deliver high-quality care within a multidisciplinary setting. The Pathway also includes a short observership, providing participants with hands-on exposure and real-world insights into breast surgical oncology practice. It culminates in the EBSQ examination and the awarding of an ESSO Certificate of Competence, acknowledging the surgeon’s knowledge and skills of evidence-based practice in breast cancer surgery.
In addition, candidates wishing to further extend their expertise may pursue a practical training fellowship in a BRESO-approved unit. This advanced clinical fellowship, undertaken in the role of senior fellow over a period of 18 to 24 months, leads to the title of BRESO Fellow.
